A higher R-value means greater resistance to heat flow through the board. The performance of your finished roof and ceiling also depends on the other materials, joints and installation.

30mm Summit XPS ceilings

With an R-value of 1.00, 30mm is the thinnest board listed here. Choose it where that performance meets the project specification, rather than choosing thickness on price alone.

40mm Summit XPS ceilings

The 40mm board provides R1.33. It offers a step up in thermal resistance from 30mm while retaining a thinner profile than the 50mm and 80mm options.

50mm Summit XPS ceilings

Board lengths, finishes and coverage

Summit’s published range includes 600mm-wide boards in lengths between 1.8m and 8m. Availability depends on the thickness, length and profile required. Ask us to confirm the combination you need.

The manufacturer offers smooth tongue-and-groove, pine-profile tongue-and-groove, smooth bevelled tongue-and-groove and smooth straight profiles. Choose the finish and edge detail before ordering so your quote matches the ceiling you want.

Board coverage = length in metres × 0.6m.

Coverage is calculated before cutting. These examples help compare sizes; confirm the available lengths for your order. Longer boards can reduce end joints, but room access and suitable support positions also affect the layout.

Summit XPS ceilings: prices per square metre

Select your required thickness to see the current price per m². The listed rates include VAT. Delivery, installation, clips, adhesive and finishing materials are separate items to include in your project quotation.

Initial board estimate = ceiling area × the selected price per m².

The final board cost is based on the quantity needed for the agreed layout. For example, a 3.6m × 600mm board covers 2.16m², so its material price is 2.16 × the current square-metre rate. This lets you compare a per-board quotation with a per-m² price on the same basis.

How many ceiling boards do you need?

Start with the dimensions of each ceiling. Measure a flat rectangular ceiling by multiplying its length by its width; measure a sloping ceiling along the actual slope.

Next, decide which way the boards will run. Divide the room width across the boards by 0.6m and round up to a whole board. Confirm a suitable board length and support layout for that direction.

For a 3.6m × 4.2m ceiling, 3.6m boards running along the 3.6m side give 4.2 ÷ 0.6 = 7 boards. Their nominal area is 7 × 2.16 = 15.12m². Check actual room measurements, trimming and installation details before finalising the order.

Rooms with alcoves, beams or changes in direction need a separate layout check. A simple sketch helps us assess lengths and offcuts more accurately than a total area alone.

Installing and finishing Summit XPS ceilings

Use the manufacturer’s installation guide for the ceiling application. Confirm the supporting structure, fixing method, suitable adhesive and joint layout with your installer.

Support spacing and secure fixing matter: incorrectly supported boards can sag. Heavy light fittings need their own suitable support, and heat-producing fittings require appropriate detailing. Include cornices and access panels in the material list.

Protect boards during storage and handling. Use compatible water-based paint, and paint surfaces exposed to direct or reflected sunlight as required by Summit’s guidance. Solvent-based products can damage XPS.

Questions before you order

Is the price per board or per m²?

INSUL8SA displays a price per m². Multiply that rate by the area of a complete board to estimate its material cost. Send your room dimensions if you need help turning the area into a board list.

Can these boards be used for soundproofing?

Summit XPS ceilings provide thermal insulation; the manufacturer advises against using these boards alone as a sound barrier. If reducing noise is a priority, ask for a ceiling-system specification that addresses sound as well as temperature.

Can the boards be used in moisture-prone rooms?

XPS resists moisture, but leaks, ventilation and condensation still need attention. Confirm the ceiling construction and finish for the room before installation; a moisture-resistant board does not fix an underlying damp problem.

Are the boards fireproof?

No. XPS is combustible and has a tested fire classification. Confirm suitability for the intended building and installation using the manufacturer’s fire documentation, especially where a non-combustible material is required.
