Protecting Your Insulation Investment

Proper storage and handling are essential to maintaining the quality and performance of insulation and building products.

Many products supplied by INSUL8SA are lightweight, durable and designed to provide many years of reliable service when stored and handled correctly. However, incorrect handling, exposure to moisture or physical damage before installation can affect product condition and, in some cases, product performance.

This guide provides practical recommendations to help customers protect their products from the time they are delivered until installation.

1. Inspect Your Delivery

When your order arrives:

• Inspect the delivery before signing where reasonably possible.
• Confirm the correct products and quantities have been delivered.
• Check for obvious transport damage.
• Report any concerns to INSUL8SA as soon as reasonably possible.

Do not begin installation if you believe products have been damaged during transport. Contact us first so we can assist.

2. General Storage Guidelines

Store products:

• Indoors whenever possible.
• In a clean, dry and well-ventilated area.
• Off the ground using pallets or suitable supports where practical.
• Away from standing water.
• Away from chemicals and contaminants.
• Protected from unnecessary impact or crushing.

Avoid storing products where they may be exposed to prolonged weather conditions before installation.

3. Protect Products from Moisture

Although many insulation products tolerate normal environmental conditions once correctly installed, prolonged exposure to water before installation may affect packaging, handling or product condition.

Customers should:

• Keep products covered during transport where necessary.
• Protect deliveries from rain immediately after unloading.
• Avoid storing insulation in areas prone to flooding or damp conditions.
• Ensure storage areas remain dry and well ventilated.

Products damaged after delivery due to incorrect storage or moisture exposure may not qualify for return or warranty.

4. Handling Glasswool and Mineral Wool Insulation

Products such as glasswool and mineral wool insulation should:

• Remain in their original packaging until required.
• Be stored in a dry location.
• Be protected from excessive compression before installation.
• Be handled carefully to avoid unnecessary damage to packaging.

Where personal protective equipment is recommended by the manufacturer, customers should follow those recommendations during installation.

5. Handling Thermal Ceiling Boards

Products such as Summit XPS Boards and Isoboard Thermal Ceiling Boards should be handled with care.

To help prevent damage:

• Store boards flat on a stable surface wherever possible.
• Support the full length of long boards.
• Protect corners and edges from impact.
• Do not drag boards across rough surfaces.
• Avoid placing heavy materials on top of stacked boards.
• Lift long boards with assistance where necessary rather than bending them.

Careful handling helps maintain the boards’ condition and makes installation easier.

6. Safe Transport After Collection

If you collect products from INSUL8SA:

• Use a suitable vehicle.
• Secure the load correctly.
• Support long products along their length.
• Protect products from weather during transport.
• Avoid excessive bending of long boards.

Customers are responsible for ensuring products are transported safely after collection.

7. Site Storage Before Installation

Building sites can expose products to changing weather and heavy traffic.

Before installation:

• Keep products away from areas where vehicles or equipment may cause damage.
• Protect materials from construction debris.
• Avoid stacking heavy items on insulation products.
• Ensure materials remain dry until installation.

8. Manufacturer Instructions

Always read and follow the manufacturer’s handling, storage and installation instructions supplied with the product.

Manufacturer recommendations take precedence where they differ from the general guidance provided in this document.
